Writing Proceedings of the Northwest Mediterranean Deep-Reefs Conference

2025

Client:
French Office for Biodiversity (OFB)

Between 2018 and 2025, the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) coordinated the project LIFE integrated Marha, aiming to restore and maintain the favourable conservation status of European marine natural habitats by advancing the implementation of the 1997 European «Habitats, Fauna and Flora» Directive and the associated Natura 2000 policy. As such, the project mobilised all stakeholders involved in the management of the 162 Natura 2000 marine habitat sites in the waters of metropolitan France.

On 8 and 9 November 2023 in Marseille, LIFE Marha organised a cross-border seminar on the deep reefs of the north-west Mediterranean. This seminar facilitated the sharing of the most current knowledge on the ecology of these habitats and the main pressures they face, as well as exploring the applicable legal protection frameworks for these environments.

SML has been commissioned to produce the proceedings of this conference in an integrated and contextualised format, ready for publication.
