The "Sea and Coast" Group of IUCN France brings together experts from the IUCN network invested in the preservation of the biodiversity of coastal and marine ecosystems, as well as in the promotion of a sustainable management of their resources. It is currently chaired by Frédérick Herpers and brings together some forty members.
The topics dealt with in this WG are the preservation of marine and coastal ecosystems, governance of the sea and the high seas, planning of activities at sea, integrated management of marine and coastal areas, ocean acidification and pollution at sea, as well as the preservation of resources (fishing, oil and mining, marine genetic resources, etc.).
The Sea and Coastal WG is also following the implementation of the National Strategy for the Sea and the Coast, as well as the transcription of the two European directives relating to the sea: the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and the Maritime Spatial Planning Directive (MSPD).
