Baseline study for the implementation of the European Mission “Restoring our Oceans and Waters by 2030” in the Atlantic and Arctic Lighthouse Area
December 2021 – September 2022
The European Missions are a new instrument of Horizon Europe, which aim to address societal challenges through systemic solutions. The objectives of the mission “Restoring our oceans and waters by 2030” are to provide a systemic approach to the restoration of our oceans, seas and waters by 2030. In its “development and piloting” phase (2022-2025), the mission deploys “lighthouse areas” in the main European sea and river basins for the development, demonstration and deployment of solutions. SML is involved in the different tasks of the project, notably in its expertise in the Atlantic and Mediterranean basins, and on issues related to Marine Protected Areas, ecosystem restoration, and innovation strategies in Europe.
