Animation of the ‘Sea and Coast’ Working Group of the French IUCN Committee

2017 – ongoing

The IUCN France Sea and Coast Group brings together experts from the IUCN network who are committed to preserving the biodiversity of coastal and marine ecosystems and to promoting the sustainable management of their resources. It is currently chaired by Frédérick Herpers and has about forty members. The topics dealt with by this WG include the preservation of marine and coastal ecosystems, governance of the sea and the high seas, planning of activities at sea, integrated management of marine and coastal areas, ocean acidification and pollution at sea, as well as the preservation of resources (fishing, oil and mining, marine genetic resources, etc.). The Sea and Coast WG is also monitoring the implementation of the National Strategy on the Sea and the Coast, as well as the transcription of the two European directives relating to the sea: the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and the Maritime Spatial Planning Directive (MSPD).
